Glider Rides

Experience the Freedom of Silent Flight

Soar high above the Inland Northwest in a sailplane — no engine, no noise, just you and the sky. Choose your adventure below.

We offer two ways to experience glider flight from Deer Park Airport, just north of Spokane. Whether you’re looking for a breathtaking scenic ride or want to get your hands on the controls and see what it’s like to actually fly a glider, we have a flight for you.

Glider Ride – $200

Sit back, relax, and take in the views. You’ll ride in the front seat of our two-place sailplane while an experienced commercial glider pilot flies from behind you. After a tow to 3,000 feet above the ground, you’ll release from the towplane and glide silently over the rolling hills, farmland, and forests of the Inland Northwest. Flights typically last 20–30 minutes depending on conditions.

This is a perfect gift or bucket-list experience — no prior experience needed. Just show up and enjoy the ride.

  • 3,000′ AGL tow with 20–30 minute flight
  • Front seat with panoramic views
  • Experienced commercial glider pilot
  • Gift certificates available

Discovery Flight – $300 (Recommended)

Want to do more than watch? Take the controls. Your Discovery Flight is conducted by an FAA Certified Flight Instructor, which means this isn’t just a ride — it’s your first real flying lesson. You’ll get hands-on stick time, learn how a glider flies, and experience what it feels like to pilot an aircraft in complete silence.

Your flight is logged as dual instruction received in a logbook that you take home — the same logbook every pilot uses to record their flying career. You’ll leave with your first entry and a clear picture of what learning to soar looks like.

  • 3,000′ AGL tow with 20–30 minute flight
  • Hands-on stick time with a CFI-G instructor
  • Logbook included — your flight is officially logged
  • $100 credit toward club membership
  • Gift certificates available

Thinking about learning to fly? $100 of your Discovery Flight fee can be applied toward your Spokane Soaring Society membership initiation if you join within 60 days. Your logbook already has its first entry — we’ll help you fill in the rest.

FAQ Section

What’s the difference between a Glider Ride and a Discovery Flight?

A Glider Ride is a scenic experience — you sit back and enjoy the flight while a commercial pilot flies. A Discovery Flight is an introductory lesson with a certified flight instructor. You’ll get hands-on stick time, your flight will be logged in an official pilot logbook, and $100 of the cost can be applied toward club membership.

Do I need any experience to fly?

None at all. Both options are designed for first-timers. Your pilot will brief you before the flight and handle all takeoff and landing procedures. For the Discovery Flight, your instructor will guide you through the controls at a comfortable pace.

How long is the flight?

Both flights are towed to 3,000 feet above the ground and typically last 20–30 minutes, depending on weather conditions. On good soaring days, flights can last longer if the pilot finds lift.

Are there weight limits?

Yes, weight limits apply for the safety of the flight. Please call us to confirm before booking.

How does the $100 membership credit work?

If you take a Discovery Flight and decide you’d like to join the Spokane Soaring Society, $100 of your flight fee is applied toward your membership initiation fee. You have 60 days from the date of your flight to use the credit. If you received your Discovery Flight as a gift, the credit transfers to you.

What does club membership include?

Members get access to our fleet of gliders, towing services, flight instruction from certified instructors, and a welcoming community of soaring enthusiasts at Deer Park Airport. It’s the most affordable way to fly. Visit our Membership page for full details.

Can I buy a gift certificate?

Absolutely. Gift certificates are available for both the Glider Ride ($200) and the Discovery Flight ($300). For Discovery Flight gifts, the $100 membership credit transfers to the person who flies. Call us to purchase.
